Tea Party

Dianne and I attended the Tax Day Tea Party in Carson City yesterday. It was a festive affair with an estimated 2000 to 3000 people in attendance. Our "good" Senator, Harry Reid claimed that the number was closer to 250. He must be right because the Dems are known for their truthfulness. Har, Har. Some counter-protesters were expected to try to disrupt the event, but I never saw a single person with an opposing viewpoint. Possibly something more interesting, though, I also never saw a single reporter or television camera present. I guess they were busy with something more important. Now, I must admit that the RGJ did publish some decent photos here.

This last photo was from the afternoon tea party in Reno. Sen. Reid was nearby at a campaign reception hosted by the mayors of Reno and Sparks who claim to be Republicans, and the mayor of Carson city, who is a Dem. Notice how Harry shows respect for his constituents.

Parmesan - Olive No-knead Bread

As you may know, I have been practicing baking no knead bread.  I think I have the system pretty well figured out, at least for here in Reno.  With the elevation of about 4500 feet the recipes seem to need some tweaking. The white bread most closely resembles to  me a fine artisan bread.  The most important criteria seems to be how wet the dough is (the amount of water).  Number two seems to be the nature of the container for the final proof (rising). this time I tried a loaf of regular white bread with parmesan cheese and black olives.  Although I deviated from the recipe the bread was outstanding.

I am posting excerpts from an email from a friend that recently moved from San Diego to the DC area. It shows her observations on life in a different world. I notice people here, on base, talk a lot about their gardens, which plants are in bloom, and how we need rain . They are not pedestrian friendly, definitely not pedestrian friendly. one woman stopped to allow me to walk from the store to the parking lot and the car behind her started to go around her and just about hit me. I had some profane words for car no. II Californians are in for a shock when dealing with east coast traffic. Slow as heck drivers. the I-95 is the main artery going N and S. Everyone is going N in a.m. into DC. It starts to back up a good 25 miles south of DC. I see the gridlock/parking lot from my on ramp. I-95 is only a 3 lane interstate and it is ugly with all the big rigs. there are yield signs getting onto the freeways, scary!! there is the HOV lanes with 2 lanes for 3 or more they open and c
