Are We Safe?

At sometime in my distant, murky past I attended the Basic Mountaineering Course presented by the Sierra Club. In it they showed a film entitled, “The Mountains Don’t Care”. It explains that the mountains do what mountains do, and what we humans do doesn’t change the mountain’s behavior in the slightest. The mountains do not care if we are rich or poor, young or old, handsome or ugly, or any other thing about us. If we understand this principle, we can experience great pleasure and adventure while hiking and exploring, and even living in the mountains. We can ignore the principles at our own peril. I learned part of this lesson while boogie board surfing in San Diego. The ocean was always more powerful that me. I could never control the wave. I could only take advantage of what the wave offered. If I understood and respected that power and behaved accordingly, surfing was fun. If I didn’t, I risked injury, or even death. The ocean doesn’t care. A similar lesson was fr

Still in Florida

Yes! We are still in Florida. And we expect to be here for at least another month. No! We didn’t intend to be snow birds. It just worked out that way. Imagine. Fleeing San Diego for warmer and drier weather. But, I’m rarely one to brag about the weather. Warm weather in the winter time tends to bring an infestation of northerners. We have taken the time to make a lot of day trips. Last week we visited friends in St. Petersburg. We liked what we saw of the city. It has a beautiful waterfront. Dianne wanted to buy every house she saw. Monday, we visited a friend of Dianne’s who she had known while growing up back in Ohio. Kathy and her husband, Tony were the most gracious hosts. They live near Daytona Beach. They treated us to an airplane ride around the area. On the way home from Da

First Post of the New Year

I haven't been posting much lately. We have been staying in the same RV park for nearly a month. The time has been spent visiting family. Dianne's sister Karen and Karen's daughter, Laura and her family both live nearby. Laura was on Christmas break, so we all went to Busch Gardens amusement park near Tampa. It was a great opportunity to re-learn how to stand in line. We also visited with three of my cousins, Beverly and her husband, Steve: Carl, and his wife, Mary: and Altanette, who all live about twenty miles from here. We also plan to get together with some of the people we knew from the cruise. I had mentioned getting sick while on the cruise. Just before New Years Dianne was feeling bad enough to visit a doctor. She was told she had "walking pneumonia", something that was common from cruise passengers. They prescribed an antibiotic that quickly knocked out the ailment. She was coughing so badly that I set out about 6:00 am for a nearby drug sto
